I am a product of Chesterfield County public schools graduating from Matoaca High School and I returned to Chesterfield county to serve as a high school Biology teacher. I then went on to serve as an assistant principal and later as the principal of Robious Middle School. After seven years at Robious I was called upon by the Governor to join his team as Deputy Secretary of Education and later Secretary of Education. As Deputy Secretary I was tasked to lead the development and implementation of the Governor’s ‘Opportunity to Learn’ K12 education agenda. At the conclusion of the Administration, I was asked to lead the development and implementation of the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows for the Hunt Institute. As director, I led a team in the recruitment and curriculum development of senior level state education political leaders – providing them the foundational knowledge needed to develop sound education agendas. In 2016, I was named President & CEO of the Hunt Institute.
I am committed to providing critical leadership and vision for our community. I will provide a focused and dedicated voice for the Midlothian District. I understand the role of the Board and your calls for me to be your liaison in decisions that impact all our children and our community.
In order to best serve our community in this role, I will seek your feedback and counsel when confronting the challenges and opportunities of governing our school system. If given the responsibilities and trust bestowed on the Board by the voters, I will strive to represent our community and the children we support, to the best of my ability.
